How to EMBED MySpace Videos

Unlike YouTube, MySpace doesn't offer readily accesible EMBED code for each of it's videos for you copy and paste into your blogs.

This means you have to do some hunting around in the pages source code and that can be a bit tricky.

So to save all you lovely people the trouble here is the code required to embed videos hosted on MySpace into your blog. Just copy and paste and replace the number in RED with the one that corresponds to the movie you want to embed.

The number in RED specifies the video you want the player to show and can be found at the end of the video's URL.

My caveats:

I don't recommend turning off "UAC". It can be annoying when you first setup your machine or want to make significant changes but in the long run it's there to safe guard your system.

I also don't recommend turning off "Windows Search Indexing" - this is a really handy feature of Vista.

And if you want to use the "Snipping Tool" - which is a very handy feature - you shouldn't turn off "Tablet PC Input Service".

But if still want to try some tweaks to speed up your system here are ten care of the "mostly saving money" blog.

1. Turn off Windows Search Indexing
2. Turn off Remote Differential Compression

3. Turn off Automatic Windows Defender Operation

4. Turn off Automatic Disk Defragmentation

5. Add a 2GB or higher USB Flash drive to take advantage of Windows Ready Boost (Additional Memory Cache)
6. Turn off Windows Hibernation

7. Turn off System Restore

8. Disable User Access Control (UAC)

9. Disable excess Windows Services that Auto-Launch at Startup
10. Disable Excess Windows Features

Flash Earth

This is a very interesting concept. Flash Earth give you a virtual earth type experience whilst allowing you to switch between all the major satelite imaging data (ie. Google, Yahoo and Microsoft) on the fly.

Very useful in comparing who has the better imagery for a particular point on the globe.

Employees are more likely to be whiling away the hours on the social networking site Facebook, a report says.

Richard Cullen of SurfControl, an internet filtering company, estimates the site may be costing Australian businesses $5 billion a year. "Our analysis shows that Facebook is the new, and costly, time-waster," he said.

The report calculates that if an employee spends an hour each day on Facebook, it costs the company more than $6200 a year. There are about 800,000 workplaces in Australia.

But it's $5bn well spent,.. right? Right?

Just got back from the Gwen Stefani concert and decided to check out her wikipedia page.

Quite a few of her music videos - hosted on youtube - are referenced.

Clicking on these links though presents me with "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" errors.

The Youtube.com main site is also unavailable,...

That's odd,... perhaps Youtube is down for maintenance?

dasBlog 2.0 released

Version 2.0 of the open source ASP.NET 2.0 blogging platform dasBlog has just been released.

I recently installed dasBlog 1.9 onto my personal site - www.nicfill.com - and I found the experience pretty quick and painless.

I'll be giving the 2.0 upgrade a go in the next few weeks and most probably write about my experiences on nicfill.com which I'll use as my primary blog from September onwards.

I've seen Steveb present a few times now and although I wasn't present at the infamous "developers developers developers" sweat-fest I can deffinately attest to his amazingly infectious energy and passion,.. as immortalised in this ipod commercial parody. Love it!

Not sure if this is a "fan" made video or something more covert but it's very clever regardless.

It looks like those fancy shmancy giant iPhone demo units on display in Apple stores around the ~~world~~ USA run on Windows XP after all!
